Mark's Fujica STX-1 Page1979. First to use the new Fujinon X bayonet lens mount, instead of M42 lenses. It's fully mechanical, except for the meter, which needs 2 LR44 or SR44 batteries. The cloth shutter's top speed is 1/750th, down to 1/2 second and bulb. The X sync speed is a 60th. There is a hot shoe, a DOF preview button, and a self-timer. It has a moving needle meter on the right side of the viewfinder, and the shutter speed on the left side. A light press on the shutter release activates the meter. This entry level camera is only a couple of steps evolved from my Fujica ST605. The mid-80's saw the end of Fujica SLR camera production. The X-mount was short lived (6 years) and they never were common. I've read they were very good lenses.8-22-23: Camera arrived OK, despite poor packing Came with a working Fujinon-X 50mm lens. So here we go again with another obscure lens mount. I like to have a few lenses for each camera, but this will take time with this one. The only advantage to this mount was open aperture metering and faster lens changes. Maybe there are adapters available. 8-30-23: Replaced light seals with cotton yarn and adhesive-backed felt. Click any picture to enlarge to full screen in a new tab. Close tab to return. 9-2-23: Results of first film test. Didn't expect much on a dark cloudy day. Was happily surprised to see the sun beams shooting through the clouds. Despite this camera's oddities I like it a lot. I have a Fujica AX-5 coming soon, and I hope it works as well as this one. I've been very lucky with Fujicas so far. 7-16-24: Next roll, taken with Kentmere 100 ASA developed for 8 minutes in Caffenol-C (instant coffee). Most of these images were edited, the roll came out dark and muddy. The test pattern shows how badly they turned out. This roll was shared with the Canon EOS Rebel S II, and those images look the same. Suspect that my attempt to standardize development temperature at the standard 20 degrees C was a mistake. The instructions for Caffenol just say "room temperature", which varies a lot from summer to winter. Next roll will be developed with warmer water. Test pattern shot with an X-Fujinon 50mm F1.6 DM lens, the rest with a Nikura 80-200mm F4.5 lens. The dark kitchen flash test used the old faithful Vivitar 2000 generic thyristor unit. |
